In 2010, after a brief visit to Atlanta where we had heard about the paint and drink concept, we opened The Paint Bar, the first business of its kind in the Northeast.

There were three customers in our first class! Slowly but surely the idea took hold and today we have painted with over 30,000 people. Every day we welcome new and returning customers from all walks of life — women and men of all ages and stages — and kids, too.

Many come through our doors and say they won’t be able to do it. We say, “relax and enjoy yourself — the most important thing is to have fun.”

We are proud to have brought this idea to the Greater Boston area, introducing painting to so many people who didn’t know they had an artistic side. We hope you’ll come to The Paint Bar and see for yourself. We look forward to painting with you soon!

The dish is served with a large bowl of boiling hot broth and the soup ingredients. These ingredients are separated. The soup ingredients are served on a cutting board or plate and include raw vegetables and lightly cooked meats. Common ingredients include thin slices of ham, chunks of chicken, chicken skin, strips of bean curd sheets, chives, sprouts and rice noodles. Once added into the broth, it cooks quickly with a layer of schmaltz and oil glistening on top. The soup takes a few minutes to cook, and it is then spooned out into small bowls. Jim Thurman of LA Weekly writes that "with the rice noodles and fresh chicken, it's reminiscent of an extremely subtle version of Vietnamese pho ga. Which shouldn't surprise anyone, as Yunnan shares a border with Vietnam.
