She is a member of the Advisory Board of IMA, The Institute for The Musical Arts, which will is the beneficiary of the October 1 “Womens’ Voices” series kickoff concert. Ohlman is a longtime advisor to IMA’s Rock and Roll Camp For Girls.

Born in the Bronx but raised in the New Haven area, Christine Ohlman has been named a “Living Legend” by both the New Haven and Hartford Advocates. In 2017 she was inducted into the National Blues Hall of Fame of American Heritage, International. She landed the Top Female Americana Vocalist honors on The Alternate Root's International Readers' Poll (she shares top slots with Paul Thorn, The Mavericks, and Rodney Crowell) and is fresh from appearances at the Paris Conservatory with The Sessions; on the SNL 40th Anniversary Post-Broadcast concert at the Plaza Hotel; "The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon;” multiple appearances on the soundtrack for the HBO series “Vinyl,” including a duet with Elvis Costello; the Carnegie Hall Tribute To The Rolling Stones; the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Concert in Cleveland (HBO) and The WC Handy Festival in Muscle Shoals, where she’s been the special guest of the Blind Boys Of Alabama and led an All-Star Shoals tributes that included Bonnie Bramlett, Candi Staton, and Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Her numerous studio and live collaborations encompass Grammy-nominated recordings and include duets with Mac Rebennack, Al Green, Dion, Ian Hunter, Marshall Crenshaw, and Charlie Musselwhite, plus appearances with Al Green, Steve Miller, Smokey Robinson, Bruce Springsteen, and the late George Harrison. She guests on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and legendary Rolling Stones producer Andrew Loog Oldham's "The ALO Orchestra Sings The Rolling Stones Songbook Vol. 2,” named “Coolest Record Of The Year” by SIRIUS/XM’s "Little Steven’s Underground Garage."

Ohlman is a noted musicologist and record collector who was one of the original contributing editors to the All Music Guide. Mixing a fiery brand of rootsy Americana with an old-school soul music flavor, she serves up a style that's been dubbed by SIRIUS/XM's Dave Marsh "Contemporary Rock R&B." For her September 22 show, Ohlman will bring to the musical table songs from her six CDs plus 2017-2018’s upcoming “The Grown-Up Thing.” "I've come here to set your souls on fire," she tells her audiences. And she will.

About Kala Farnham:

Kala Farnham is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter hailing from the Quiet Corner of CT. Kala's signature songwriting has been described as a reinvention of the folk tradition made popular by artists such as Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez: she has been praised for her classical undertones and playful dose Broadway theatricality onstage, and a lyricism that springs to life with creative storytelling, cultural references, and rich metaphor. Her first full-length studio album, "Anahata: Wake Up Your Heart", was nominated for "Best Americana Album" in RI's Motif Music Awards alongside a nomination for "Best Female Americana Vocalist". In 2015, she was selected to be an Official Showcase Artist in Folk Alliance International's SERFA Music Conference. October 2016 marked the release of her 2nd studio album, "Samadhi: Home Is Where You Are" as well as another Motif nomination for Best Americana Album. Kala is an alumni of the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project and the winner of the 2017 Rhode Island Songwriters Association Performing Songwriter Contest.

About Dana Newman of Someone You Can Xray:

Dana Newman is the lead vocalist and lyricist for many of Xray’s songs. She was led to music through her love of writing poetry. Beginning with an interest in opera and classical as a young child, she found a voice for pop and rock in her teens. Her vocal style is often compared to the blues and folk singers who provided much of her song writing influence.

“With effortlessly capable musicianship and weight-free jammage, Someone You Can Xray offers sonic touchstones summoning pleasant aural images of Hot Tuna, It’s a Beautiful Day, and Jerry Goodman if he got left off the Mahayishnu Orchestra tour bus and joined the Tedeschi-Trucks Band.” -Rick Koster, The Day
