    Aztec Two-step 2.0 APR 27, 2024 -

Aztec Two-Step 2.0 returns to Courthouse Center for the Arts for a very special celebration & concert! Rex is thrilled to celebrate his much-anticipated new memoir "See, It Was Like This..." with a Music & Memoir Book Signing. The show will open with Rex chatting about his new book and doing a reading, followed by the band performing a full concert of Aztec Two-Step favorite classics and more. The story of Aztec Two-Step is intertwined with the history of folk/rock music in America. Originating from a chance meeting at an “open mic night” in Boston in 1971, then taking their name from a poem by beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman went on to record four albums on Elektra and RCA Records that helped usher the music of the 60's into the 1970's and beyond, leaving an indelible mark on the musical genre. The duo performed worldwide, was critically acclaimed in major U.S. newspapers, reviewed in Rolling Stone Magazine, and appeared on numerous radio and TV shows including The King Biscuit Flower Hour, World Cafe Live and David Letterman, as well as winning the New York Music Award for Best Folk Album for their 1986 release Living in America. With a career built on progressive FM and college radio and non-stop touring over five decades, the duo appeared in concert with The Band, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Donovan, Judy Collins, Jackson Browne, Seals and Crofts, Carly Simon, Heart, Orleans, The Beach Boys and so many more. After 47 years, Neal retired in 2018, and Rex and his wife Dodie Pettit (a session player on ATS's 1980 Time of Our Lives album), an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and songwriter and an original cast member of Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera, are now the heart and soul of Aztec Two-Step 2.0. Together, with members of their new ensemble, they continue to expand and explore the band's musical legacy, performing ATS fan favorites, forgotten gems and new original compositions. With dazzling musicianship and harmonies, ATS 2.0 has recaptured the multi-layered dimension of Rex & Neal’s original studio recordings, offering an old familiar feeling, yet with a new and energized spin. Doors open at 6:00 PM Show starts at 7:00 PM.

    Sean Chambers -

Florida born Sean Chambers began his career in the Blues back in 1998 when he toured with the legendary Hubert Sumlin as his guitarist and band leader until 2003. During Sean’s tenure with Mr. Sumlin, Britain's own Guitarist magazine named Chambers as “One of the top 50 blues guitarists of the last century.” In 2009, Chambers went into the studio to record his critically-acclaimed album “Ten Til Midnight.” Recorded in March 2020 just before the coronavirus shut everything down, the Florida-based Chambers went into Showplace Studios in Dover, New Jersey, for the sessions of his 8th album. "That’s What I’m Talkin About " was engineered and produced by Showplace owner Ben Elliott, who suddenly passed away shortly after the album was recorded. In addition to Sean Chambers (guitar, vocals) and members of his band, "That’s What I’m Talkin About " also features guest appearances from lauded keyboardists Bruce Katz and John Ginty. The 11 tracks on the new disc include 10 songs Sean regularly performed on the road as a member of Hubert Sumlin’s touring band, as well as “Hubert’s Song,” a Chambers original saluting Sumlin. The music showcases a tour-de force of Sean’s blazing guitar pyrotechnics.

    Ben Polom Comedy -

Host: Robbie Cavaco Robbie Cavaco hails from Rhode Island (The Ocean State). It will be like a 20 ft wave hits you in the face when you see him perform. Although he has only been performing a year and a half, he wasted no time jumping straight into the murky water of comedy without a life preserver. In that year and a half, Robbie has performed all over New England. Performing alongside the likes of Doug Key, Charlie Hall, Poppy Champlin, and Lee Syatt of The Church of What's Happening Now with Joey Diaz. Robbie may be new to this but he's true to his craft, which is expressed through his goofy, lighthearted sense of humor, with a little bit of satire sprinkled on top. Also he loves Ben Polom and still can’t admit it. Duchess SS Duchess SS, (the queen bee and arch nemesis of Ben Polom) presents her life in a nutshell. Her brutal honesty about her experiences has made her a force to be reckoned with amongst comics. Duchess has climbed the ranks within the RI comedy scene bringing with her a unique and hysterical energy that never disappoints. Also she’s beaten Ben in two comedy competitions, but doesn’t forget the one time he got the top spot on the podium. Stevie Collins Stevie Collins is as zany as they come! From true stories to bizarre takes and anecdotes. He has been making people laugh across New England for years with his over the top self deprecating humor and antics. Credits: Opened for Lenny Clarke, Dan St. Germaine, Dante Nero, Gilbert Gottfried Clubs: Dangerfields, St. Marks, Broadway Comedy Club, Improv Boston, Comedy Connection RI, comedy park Kim Arundel Kim is a local South County comedian and mom of two who likes to let loose with her hilarious, relatable, and at times inappropriate humor. He’s performed all over the north east including Providence, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Connecticut.

    Scott Kirby -

Singer, songwriter, guitarist, storyteller, traveler, and road warrior are all words that aptly describe Scott Kirby. Finishing songs while driving through the Italian countryside, performing 100 plus live shows throughout the US and Canada, touring Ireland with 50 fans in tow and recording his tenth album in Nashville, all keep the barnacles off this modern-day troubadour. A creative lyricist and accomplished finger-style acoustic guitarist with an expressive voice, Kirby describes himself as a direct descendent of the ’70s singer/songwriter movement. When it comes to songwriting, Kirby respects authenticity and counts on everyday life and his coastal roots for much of his inspiration. “I don’t wake up every day thinking about writing the next commercial hit,” says Kirby. “Songwriting for me is about telling stories, expressing emotions, and commentary on things I may find funny or absurd.”

Neil Young Experience - Harvest and Rust 8-3- -

HARVEST & RUST A Neil Young Experience.  Come in like a Hurricane.. Youre a Southern Man with a Cinnamon Girl that has a Heart of Gold...  It’s hard to represent the wide-array of Neil Young’s influential material in one show, but that’s exactly what the band HARVEST & RUST does.  Based in Western Massachusetts, the core four members of HARVEST & RUST often augment their show with other well-known local musicians to reproduce every era of Neil Young’s music.  Be it the chart-topping HARVEST material (including Old Man, Heart of Gold, etc.) to the electric explorations of RUST NEVER SLEEPS (Hey Hey My My, etc.), as well as songs from Neil’s time in Crosby Stills Nash & Young and Buffalo Springfield, you’re in for a night of “complete Neil”.  HARVEST & RUST members are John Kiernan, Garrett Lechowski, Jim Reynolds, Andy Gordon and Matt Cahill.

Adam Levin Guitar Show URI 10/17/24 THU7PM -

For Adam Levin, the guitar captures the essence of the world of classical music. He also believes it is the perfect instrument to draw an audience into that world. “Guitar is a bridge to classical music, so once you draw the audience in, a bait and switch, you then introduce them to a whole new and wide variety of music from cultures around the world.” Levin has loved music and the guitar since childhood. That led him to a Master’s from New England Conservatory, followed by a Fulbright Scholarship in Spain where he focused on expanding the repertoire for the guitar through the commission of new works. “The result was an eclectic body of music with new Spanish composers at the core,” Levin said, “I wanted to share these creations and give other musicians the opportunity to perform them as well and share this beautiful music with the world.” Following his return from Spain, Levin connected with the acclaimed Naxos recording label, and with their help he organized 30 new compositions into a four-volume series—21st Century Spanish Guitar, Adam Levin, Classical Guitar. Two volumes have already been released and the third is in the works. Levin, who also teaches classical guitar at the University of Massachusetts Boston, co-founded Kithara Project, a non-profit that provides equitable access to the classical guitar worldwide. So far, Kithara has projects in Boston and Mexico City. “Our goal is to create young classical guitarists and a vibrant and creative culture in which these students can thrive,” said Levin. “It is not just about playing or teaching the guitar, but about serving the community and creating a society of creative citizens. Together with music activism and performance and teaching, I want to redefine the identity of the 21st century musician.”
