About this Event
The United Theatre presents RACHAEL & VILRAY live with special guest Taylor Ashton at the Misquamicut Drive-In on Saturday, August 8th at 9pm ET. Please join us as we transform the drive-in to a concert venue for The United Theatre and Knickerbocker Music Center 2020 Summer Music Series presented in partnership with the Misquamicut Business Association. ONE TICKET PER CARLOAD. Music will be played via speakers and will also be broadcast to cars via FM transmitter.

ABOUT RACHAEL & VILRAY

Rachael & Vilray feels like a rare old vinyl gem that a curious collector found hidden in the dusty bins of some second-hand record shop and decided to share with the world, an unearthed jazz-vocal treasure. Even if listeners are in on part of the secret and already know Rachael Price as lead vocalist of Lake Street Dive or as a frequent musical guest on NPR’s Live from Here, they will surely want to research these marvelous yet utterly unfamiliar songs she and guitarist-singer-composer Vilray (pronounced VILL-ree, no last name needed) perform together. These tunes seem to have been pulled from some hitherto undiscovered chapter of the American Songbook; one might assume that a little Googling will surely yield an intriguing provenance, a colorful story behind each of them.

ABOUT TAYLOR ASHTON

Born in the last year of the 1980s, Taylor Ashton grew up surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the old growth rainforests of Canada's west coast. His songs are inspired by the primeval crookedness of traditional old-time music, the humor and heartbreak of Randy Newman, the cosmic emotionality of mid-career Joni Mitchell, and the sage vulnerability of Bill Withers. Somehow, he finds a way to make this all work on the clawhammer banjo.
