Venue Description

Trafford is located on the site of the former Sears Coal Mill in Warren’s historical district. We overlook Warren’s waterfront, and we want to make the view a part of the whole experience here at Trafford. We hope that everyone is able to relax, enjoy some delicious food, and embrace the wonder that New England, especially Warren, has to offer. The name, Trafford, was a family name that has been passed down for many years. When trying to determine a name for this restaurant, we decided to look up the meanings of some possible prospects. Trafford, originally Trapford, means where the land and water meet. What is more perfect for this building built right on the waterfront? Alyn Carlson, our designer, brought the name, location, and building together with an image. The image dates back to the 1890s, and was discovered in the Providence Public Library. The image of a sailboat with wheels has a quirky mystery that perfectly embodies a combination of land and water. Our goal is to make you, our guests, comfortable and embraced with a wonderful view, exceptional service, and delectable food. We hope that you enjoy everything that we offer and will come back time and time again!

The Blount family's involvement in the shellfish industry began in the 1880s, with Eddie B. Blount's entry into the oyster business in one of many oyster houses in West Barrington which handled the cleaning and shucking of clams and oysters from Rhode Island's famous Narragansett Bay. In 1938, the Blount's then-thriving oyster business was among the casualties of the massive hurricane that devastated the entire oyster industry in the Narragansett Bay area. Nelson Blount pioneered the market transition from oysters to clams and purchased the current Blount Seafood waterfront property in 1943. By 1946, he incorporated several businesses into Blount Seafood Corporation and the company has continually processed clams right up to today. The clams produced at our Warren facility go into chowders made by our nation's largest and most well-known soup companies. Recently Blount has further expanded with a state-of-the-art soup facility located in Fall River, Ma. Our soups are served nation wide in many fine restaurants and are sold in numerous retail locations typically under our customers' brand names. We have also now expanded into making a wide variety of gourmet dips and spreads.
