Ensuring perfection in each plate ------ Welcome to MOSAIC restaurant. Mosaic is the art of certain images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored wood, glass, stone and other materials. It’s a technique of decorative art or interior decoration. Most mosaics are made of small, flat, roughly square pieces of stone or glass of different color known as TESSERAE. Some, especially floor mosaics, are made of small rounded pieces of stone, and called pebble mosaic. Others are made of other materials. Mosaic has a long history - early Christian basilicas from the 4th century onwards were decorated with wall and ceiling mosaics and were widely used on religious building and palaces in early Islamic art. This includes Islam’s first great religious building, the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, and the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus (which is the most important early Islamic mosaic work). Modern Mosaics are made by professional artist, street artist, and as a popular craft. Many materials other than traditional stone and ceramic tesserae may be employed, including shells, glass, and beads.
