Grendel's Den opened in 1971 by Herbert and Sue Kuelzer. Their daughter Kari started running the restaurant in 2003. Grendel's is known as a "dyed-in-the-wool Harvard Square place" and is known to the Cambridge and Harvard University community as a comfortable, down-to-earth place to have food and drinks at fabulous prices. In 1982, Grendel's won an historic court case in the US Supreme Court, which enabled us to use our liqour license and changed existing laws in 9 states.
