Rogue Island Local Kitchen & Bar, a contemporary restaurant focused on offering a menu inspired by the produce, protein and people of Rhode Island will be holding its grand opening celebration on Friday, March 21, 2014. Rogue Island is located in The Arcade in downtown Providence, the oldest indoor shopping mall in America. The philosophy of Rogue Island is to build a menu based around what can be purchased locally; often foregoing the use of a product because its use does not support the local food system. We've been fortunate to meet some great people along the way so far, and we are planning this event to say thank you and drive future collaboration within the local agriculture scene. The theme of the event is a bluegrass festival and entertainment will be provided by Astrograss, a bluegrass band that will play a mix of new material along with some familiar favorites. There will also be two acoustic acts to open and close the event. Local farmers and purveyors will be in attendance, for those interested in meeting the faces of the local agriculture scene in Rhode Island. Matunuck Oyster will be sponsoring a raw bar featuring their products, and Rogue Island will provide a complimentary sampling culinary tour of Rhode Island in the form of small bites. Jonathan Edwards Winery and Best Beverage/FJN Fine Wines will be providing wine samples that pair well with shelfish. Providence-based Revival Brewing will sponsor a beer tent, Sons of Liberty distillers will offer some cocktails featuring their vodkas, and New Harvest Coffee & Spirits will provide samples of their coffee along with some coffee-themed cocktails. Purveyors of Rogue Island have been invited to set up tables with marketing materials and other information about their local businesses; additionally, the retailers located on the first floor of The Arcade will remain open late during the event to showcase their shops to our visitors. Rogue Island's bartenders will be mixing their favorite prohibition era cocktails made exclusively with locally crafted, small batch spirits.
